Hero's Fashion
Extravaganza 2009 |
For the
past seven years students at CFAD have been addressing
the problem of pollution in a unique and fashionable way.
Students are tasked to create high fashion garments out
of waste materials. Items that would clog up the environment
are transformed into extravagant and outrageous fashion
garments. This year the extravaganza is called “Mama
Africa” and the theme reflects Africa as students
have to search the rich cultural diversity in our continent
to express their creativity through garments made from
recycled materials. Devised by Krish Moodley (CFAD Academic
Director) in 2000 this fashion design project is an opportunity
to stretch the creativity of the graphic design students
and to explore a unique solution to the age-old problem
of pollution. This year’s show is set to be even
more exciting as the current energy crisis, renewable
energy and recycling are topics on most peoples minds.
This annual fashion extravaganza has become part of the
Durban arts calendar and was featured on ETV recently,
drawing national attention to CFAD students and our “solution
to pollution”. |
